Therapies and Interventions
As a psychologist I use a few different therapies, as different problems require different solutions. I love doing Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and a lot of people I work with love doing it with me. It’s really good for helping manage emotions and distress, and to resolve high pressure, difficult problems in the heat of the moment. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing are all psychologist’s bread and butter, so I can get into that if that’s what’s needed. I can also do psychological assessments and reports; IQ & cognitive tests, diagnostic screening tools, that sort of thing.
But yeah, end of the day, It’s really about listening to the client and getting a good feel for what they’re going through, where they’re at, and what intervention best fits their needs and budget.

Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT):
An incredibly practical therapy where people learn skills to managing overwhelming emotions, distress and interpersonal difficulties. DBT is often done in groups but it’s also extremely effective in a one on one counselling sessions. My favourite pick, 5 stars, would recommend :)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT):
One of the most popular therapies of the past 40 years. CBT explores the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours and helps people to see their problems in a more logical way. Excellent for anxiety, depression, and psychotic illness.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Enhanced (CBTE):
The gold standard for treating adult eating disorders. If you are looking to address an eating disorder as a primary diagnosis this is really the first therapy you should try.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR):
A therapy originally developed to help people overcome Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but has now been shown to treat any type of memory that causes distress, which in turn can lead to improvements in mood, anxiety and other mental health issues.

Mindfulness:
The buzz word in psychology for several years now and rightfully so. Mindfulness is great for building insight into your body, mind and soul. It’s not all hippie mumbo jumbo either, in actual fact it brings people closer to reality and more present to address issues in their life. It’s also pretty relaxing at times which is nice.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT):
Therapy on a budget! That’s kinda a joke but also true. SFBT focuses more on the goals of a person rather than historical issues the led to the issues. In SFBT the therapist believes you have the solutions in you, you just need some support to dig them out of your brain.
Motivational Interviewing (MI):
Motivational interviewing is usually implemented to help people overcome addictions and self destructive behaviour. However, it’s also great to help people resolve internal conflict or make informed decisions at crossroads in their lives.
